Vitoria-Gasteiz Implements Secure and Discounted Bike Parking for Residents

This Thursday, the City Council of Vitoria-Gasteiz, in collaboration with the company Intelligent Parking, has launched a pilot project that promises to transform bicycle parking for residents of the city. Under the name BIZILEKU, this initiative offers secure parking spaces at a reduced cost, with a monthly fee of 15 euros that can decrease thanks to usage bonuses, thus encouraging more sustainable mobility through frequent bicycle use.

Faced with the issue that many people in Vitoria-Gasteiz face of not having adequate spaces to store their bicycles, the BIZILEKU project emerges as an innovative solution. Beatriz Artolazabal, deputy mayor and councilor of Public Space and Neighborhoods, has emphasized the importance of this initiative to facilitate the incorporation of bicycles into the daily routine of local residents. In this initial phase, the system offers 35 parking spaces, strategically located in three key points of the city, awaiting evaluation of its effectiveness and acceptance among residents.

One of the most notable features of the system is the im bt device, integrated in the bike racks, capable of detecting the presence of bicycles through the PB police bike device. This innovation not only ensures the security of parked vehicles, but also provides data on the reduction of the carbon footprint associated with each use.

The BIZILEKU project has a one-year period to gather information that allows evaluating its impact and potential for expansion, not only in other areas of Vitoria-Gasteiz, but also in other Spanish and European cities. Registrations to participate are already open and will conclude on November 17. In case of high demand, spaces will be assigned by lottery, allowing winners to enjoy the service for six months, with the possibility of renewal for an additional six months.

For Intelligent Parking, this initiative is an opportunity to showcase the capabilities of its Parking Verde platform, which integrates advanced technology, security, and convenience to promote sustainable urban mobility and reduce the carbon footprint. Eusebio Puebla, CEO of the company, asserts that “this combination of security and affordable price will further encourage the use of bicycles in daily life.”

As the “Green Capital,” Vitoria-Gasteiz continues to stand out in the leadership of sustainable initiatives, improving the quality of life of its inhabitants and strengthening its reputation as a reference in sustainable mobility. With the implementation of BIZILEKU, the city not only seeks to reduce emissions and improve public health, but also to alleviate traffic congestion and promote more ecological transportation practices among residents.
