Windows 11 Insider Build 26120.2130 Preview: Innovations in the Development Channel

Microsoft recently released the new Build 26120.2130 (KB5044400) of Windows 11 on its Dev channel, offering a series of improvements and fixes designed to benefit those users who prefer to stay at the forefront of technological developments. This update is part of the company’s ongoing effort to provide continuous advancements and optimizations in Windows 11, version 24H2, through an enablement package.

One of the most notable updates is the simplification of the start menu. The option previously known as “All apps” has been renamed to “All,” in what seems to be an effort to offer a more direct and simple user experience within the operating system.

In the realm of data input, an innovative gamepad keyboard design has been added to the on-screen keyboard of Windows 11. This new design will allow users to operate their Xbox controller to navigate and type, incorporating vertically aligned keys that optimize navigation with the controller, as well as offering quick functions such as the X button to go back and the Y button as the space bar.

For those using Narrator, two significant updates have been introduced. Now, users can copy the last information provided by Narrator to the clipboard using the “Narrator key + control + X” shortcut. Additionally, Narrator will automatically start reading the content of an email in the new Outlook app, emulating the behavior of the classic version of Outlook.

Another notable improvement is related to wireless network compatibility. The “netsh wlan show networks” command can now read SSIDs encoded in UTF-8, which means that Wi-Fi names containing Unicode characters, such as emojis, will be displayed correctly.

The update also includes several fixes, such as improving Narrator performance to prevent slowdowns after prolonged use, as well as fixing an issue that prevented regaining control of the PC when waking it from sleep mode.

However, Microsoft is investigating some known issues, such as explorer.exe crashing when interacting with certain applications on the taskbar and menu disorganization issues when clicking on a letter in the start menu.

Dev channel users should be aware that the introduced features may not reach the general public release level, as they may be modified or removed based on insider feedback. Microsoft encourages users interested in experiencing these features first to enable the “get the latest updates” option in the Windows Update settings.

With each new iteration, Microsoft reaffirms its commitment to constantly improving the functionalities of Windows 11, opening up new possibilities for interaction and customization for its users.
