BID24 Celebrates Design that Fuses Technology, Sustainability, and Society in 13 Ibero-American Countries.

Spain stands out in the recent edition of the Ibero-American Design Biennial (BID24), winning a total of eight awards. The BID24, held under the theme “Expanded Design,” has recognized the most influential design works for their ability to integrate and dialogue with other disciplines and technologies, providing innovative solutions to contemporary challenges.

In this edition, the jury has awarded 15 prizes and 32 special mentions to projects from thirteen Ibero-American countries. In addition to the awards in each design category, cross-cutting awards have been given that recognize innovation, social relevance, technology, sustainability, and design in urban environments.

The final selection of BID24 includes 197 projects from the 22 Ibero-American countries. The award-winning projects, along with other outstanding ones totaling 70, will be exhibited from October 8, 2024, to January 6, 2025, at the Matadero Madrid Design Center (Pº de la Chopera, 14).

During the ninth edition of this biennial, Spain has excelled with eight awards in various design disciplines. The BID24 has demonstrated the constant evolution of design through its interaction with technology and other areas of knowledge, celebrating works that not only innovate but also creatively and sustainably address current issues.

The BID24 exhibition, featuring 200 projects from 22 Ibero-American countries, will open on October 8, 2024, at the Matadero Madrid Design Center and will remain open until January 6, 2025. Visitors will have the opportunity to discover the winning projects, including some standout ones from Argentina for their technological innovation and contribution to sustainability and mobility.

Among the awardees are projects like “Zebra” by Álvaro García Ruano, awarded for its innovative design and focus on visual identity for a rare diseases research group; “Design is good for health” by Úbeda & Reverter, which received multiple mentions for its influence on the evolution of science and medicine; and the Maritime Museum of the Cantabrian Sea Restaurant, a standout example of interior design by Miguel Crespo Picot, Sixto Martín Martínez, and Javier Guzmán Benito.

In addition, the collection “Silver Delight” by Eva Iszoro was awarded in the Fashion, Textile, and Accessories Design category, and “RurAll” by Gustavo Stecher received a mention in Graphic Design and Visual Communication for its inclusive approach to combating rural depopulation.

The BID24 exhibition will not only showcase the award-winning projects but also serve as a platform to inspire and debate on the role of design in modern society. Conferences, workshops, and debates will be organized, with the participation of renowned designers and experts in various disciplines, discussing the future of design and its impact on creating more inclusive and sustainable societies.

This edition of BID24 marks a milestone in the history of Ibero-American design, highlighting the importance of design as a driver of change and an essential tool for tackling the challenges of the present and future.
