Do It Yourself (DIY)

Do It Yourself is about being passionate of handcrafts, recycling and decoration. DIY is a real trend nowadays. It’s a really good option for decorating, making special gifts, spending time together with your family or friends, or just enjoying yourself. But do you know where the term comes from and why has it become so popular?

According to several sources, we’ve heard that the origins of the term DIY go back to the 60’s. It started when subcultures against consumerism and the system, such as hippies and punks, opted for alternative and different “ways of consumption”. This movement started to spread globally and it became popular during the 90’s. DIY went far beyond those ideologies and became a life philosophy closely linked to craftworks. Nowadays, DIY is one of the favorite hobbies of most people including men, women and children.

DIY (Do It Yourself)

This trend has made possible finding solutions to some needs with resources that time ago we would have considered as garbage. Recycling, repairing our furniture ourselves and learning to create things with our hands (especially in these times when it seems like we can’t do nothing without a computer) are some of the good things we can find in the world of DIY.

We definitely live in a DIY world and even some brands opt for this new life philosophy and suggest us new usages for their containers. An example is the beer’s brand San Miguel that, with the collaboration of Marta, shows us how to do a garland with empty small bottles of beer. You can check it out step by step in the following video:

From now, you already know what to do with the empty small bottles of beer from your parties and friends or family reunions. This is just an example among so many others DIY activities you can do! Take a look to our blog to find more gorgeous, witty and entertaining DIY ideas
