The government has taken a significant step by giving the green light to the tender of an essential project for the control of railway traffic in the Rincón de Soto Variant, in La Rioja. This authorization, granted by the Council of Ministers, will allow the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility to move forward, through Adif, in the drafting of the project and in the execution of the necessary works. The budget allocated to this project amounts to 19.6 million euros, not including VAT.
The Rincón de Soto Variant will connect the municipalities of Alfaro and Rincón de Soto, standing out as a cooperative effort between the Ministry of Transport, the Government of La Rioja, and Adif. This project is also part of the improvements to the Castejón-Logroño railway section, which is part of the Cantabrian-Mediterranean Corridor, a vital infrastructure for transportation in Spain.
The funding for this project will have the support of the “Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan,” which is part of the European Union’s efforts under the NextGenerationEU program. This plan aims to promote economic recovery and foster resilience through strategic investments in sustainable infrastructure.
With the implementation of these measures, it is expected that railway development in La Rioja will not only improve regional connectivity but also contribute to the goal of sustainable mobility proposed by the authorities. The proper planning and execution of these infrastructures represent a significant advancement in the modernization of railway transportation in the region, promising improvements in the management and efficiency of railway traffic.
