Decorate a terrace without any money

More and more people are finding themselves without a budget to redecorate or simply decorate their terrace. Decorating a terrace without money is not easy, but it can be done. Just like if you have a very small budget.

In fact, we’re going to show you that it is possible. And for that, we’re going to give you tips and ways to achieve, without spending a euro, or investing very little. Want to know how? Let’s get to it.

Furniture

In stores, you know there are very affordable furniture that you could allocate a small part of your budget to buy or that you need. In general, the first thing before rushing to buy is to think about what kind of furniture you need.

In a terrace, you will need chairs, a table, and some storage furniture. That’s more than enough. You can swap the chairs for an armchair or a sofa.

Now, how do you decorate a terrace without money when you need furniture? Before going to look at furniture, check your house. Surely there are chairs, tables, even storage, that you don’t use or don’t need where they are. And you can always give them a new life. For example, if you have a chest of drawers and you don’t use it or can manage with another one, you could use this for your terrace. The same goes for a shelf, for example. It will be open, but it wouldn’t be a problem.

As for chairs, since you won’t be using the terrace all the time, you can choose to take out the chairs when you need them, and keep them free while you’re not using them. The same goes for the table, you can opt for a small one that you have at home.

The goal is to use what you already have to decorate it, even if it’s just temporary. Still, if you can spend some money, but not much, you can opt for foldable chairs and tables that are usually very affordable and won’t be an excessive expense.

Another option is to buy pallets and make your own furniture (sofas, tables…).

Decorating a terrace without money with cushions and blankets

Just because they are destined for the terrace doesn’t mean they can’t leave your house. You probably have cushions that you’re not using, or that don’t work for you. So give them a second life by placing them on the terrace. The same goes for blankets. Instead of being in the closets, you can choose to have them on the terrace furniture for when you need them.

Improve the flooring of your terrace

Here we do have a few issues. If your terrace doesn’t have a floor (it’s just concrete), you may have to spend a little money to buy some tiles, but you could install them yourself if you’re good at it (and save some money).

If it already has tiles, but they’re in bad shape, you can opt to use rugs (from those you have at home, for example, or buying some cheap ones), or artificial grass (to simulate nature). In both cases, the price may be a bit higher but it will be worth it.

Improving the wall

For the walls of your terrace, if you want to decorate a terrace without money you can use those leftover paint cans you saved from when you painted your house. Usually, when you paint, you always leave a can with the same paint for touch-ups. If you’ve stored them well, it’s possible that it’s still in good condition, and combining several of those leftovers you could paint the wall of your terrace for free. You could even let your imagination run wild and create a beautiful design.

Beach umbrellas, perfect for shade and decorating a terrace without money

If you go to the beach, you will have a beach umbrella. Or several. So, why spend money on buying a pergola or a umbrella for the terrace? You can save money by using the beach one. After all, you may only use it a few days or weeks a year, so why not give it a second use and make more use of it?

This way, you can decorate a terrace without money because you have already spent it before.

Low-cost lighting

Check at home if you have any floor lamp, table lamp or even candles or ambient lamps. You surely have several. And they can be perfect for decorating a terrace without money, because you won’t have to spend any. All you have to do is give a use to what you have “useless” and taking up space inside your house.

Other types of decoration to decorate a terrace without money

To give it a more elegant look, and without spending any money, you could use glass jars as vases (or decorate them with paint), cans for plant pots, or even plastic bottles that have a new use (by painting and cutting them you could make them look different).

We’re not saying that you can decorate a terrace without money. But as you can see, there are many ways to make it an extension of your house’s decoration (especially the living room) and, thus, spend much less (or nothing) by allocating part of the furniture from the house to the exterior. What ideas do you have to save on your terrace?
